Ryan D. Poliakoff, Partner

Ryan D. Poliakoff serves as general corporate counsel to condominium associations, homeowner’s associations, master associations and country clubs.  He has extensive experience drafting documents and covenants, reviewing and drafting contracts, preparing indemnification agreements and settlement agreements, coordinating developer turnovers, pursuing covenant enforcement actions as well as running elections and corporate meetings.  Mr. Poliakoff’s articles and editorials have appeared in newspapers and magazines throughout the United States.  He has been interviewed on National Public Radio and numerous other radio programs.  He is a frequent contributor at seminars and workshops for attorneys and board members, speaking on subjects including property management, the Fair Housing Amendments Act and executive board operations and service.

As an attorney in New York, Mr. Poliakoff practiced complex commercial litigation, including securities, patent, environmental and mass tort litigation.  He participated in the settlement of In re Cendant, a $3.3 billion securities fraud action, which, at the time was the largest such settlement in history.

Prior to joining Backer Aboud Poliakoff and Foelster, LLP, Mr. Poliakoff was a senior counsel at Sachs Sax Caplan, P.L.  Prior to that, Mr. Poliakoff served as Vice President of Management at AKAM On-Site, Inc., an on-site condominium and HOA management company; and as President of Century Management, a portfolio management company.

Mr. Poliakoff is the co-author of New Neighborhoods: A Consumer’s Guide to Condo, Co-Op and HOA Living–a nationally-published reference on shared ownership for board members, owners and volunteers. His articles on condominium and HOA governance have appeared in newspapers and magazines nationwide. He is also the author of a weekly Q&A column published in various newspapers and periodicals throughout Florida, including the Palm Beach Post. Mr. Poliakoff has been frequently interviewed as an expert in shared-ownership living.  His articles include:
